Our Family Tries Udi’s Gluten Free Foods
About 15 years ago, one of my aunts was diagnosed with Ciliac Disease. At that time, we had never heard of the disease and had no idea what ‘gluten-free’ meant. Because our family is very close, we all learned very quickly what my aunt could and could not have, and she began her lifelong gluten free diet immediately.
Fifteen years later, while I am not gluten-free in our home, we do and have tried many of the gluten-free options, and whenever my aunt is visiting we do our best to have on hand foods for her to eat and enjoy. She visits us at least once a week, sleeping over often to help me with the kids regularly. I have to admit, over the years, the gluten free diet options have really come a long way.
When Aunt Joanne visited last week and I showed her my Udi’s samples, she was beyond thrilled. As our family “expert” on gluten-free, I was very happy to hear that Udi’s was her absolute favorite. She ranted and raved about their bagels and how she loves the entire line. I made a pot of coffee and sat with my aunt, my husband and kids and we sampled the Udi’s cookies.
The Snickerdoodles were my absolute favorite. Such an enjoyable snack and such a perfect combination with my evening cup of ‘joe! I have to admit, I enjoyed more than one! The kids LOVED the Brownie Bites, and my husband enjoyed the Chocolate Chip cookies. Ordinarily, he is my hardest to please, because whenever he sees a snack that is meant to be an indulgence as low-fat, gluten free, or some other “healthier” option, he is usually skeptical. Paul was very happy with our Udi’s snacks!
The next day, we had hot dogs and burgers and ate them with our Udi’s buns. I was just as happy with our gluten free options. Because we have a gluten-free allergy in our family, I am planning to bring in more gluten-free options into our household. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using more of these groceries in our home (as a matter of fact there is only good things to do so!)
